When Survival Skills Start Running Your Life…..

This is your introduction to the Adult Highchair™—and the freedom of choosing a different response.

Old Survival Skills. New Life Possibilities.

Have you ever reacted and then wondered, Why did I do that?

Maybe you say yes when you want to say no.

You over explain, fix everyone, avoid asking for help, stay too long, leave too soon, or work tirelessly to prove you are enough.

Those reactions may not be random—and they do not mean something is wrong with you. They may be survival skills that once kept you safe.

That’s what I call the Adult Highchair™.

What Is It?

The Adult Highchair™ is what happens when childhood coping strategies continue to make adult decisions.

As children, we learn how to gain safety, approval, or connection. We might become people-pleasers, perfectionists, caretakers, overachievers, performers, rebels, or fiercely independent.

Those patterns may have served us then. But we are not children anymore.

Children survive. Adults get to choose.

How It Sounds:

The Highchair can show up anywhere—relationships, parenting, work, family, faith, finances, and boundaries.

It may sound like:

• “They’re upset. I need to fix it.”

• “If I say no, they’ll reject me.”

• “I have to prove myself.”

• “I can’t let anyone see me struggle.”

• “I’ll just do it myself.”

The Adult Highchair™ does not always throw a tantrum. Sometimes it whispers—and we mistake it for truth.

A Different Way Forward

The Healthy Adult can pause before reacting.

They can say no, ask for help, set boundaries, make mistakes without shame, and let others have their feelings without taking responsibility for them.

This is not about blaming the past.

It is about refusing to let it control the present.

My past may explain me. It does not get to control me.

The Adult Highchair™ Program

After years of working with individuals and families in recovery, I created the Adult Highchair™ Program to help people identify old survival patterns and begin choosing from their Healthy Adult.

Our inaugural group is now forming!

If you’ve ever wondered, Why do I keep doing this? or Why do I know better but still react the same way? this program may be for you.
